  • P. C. Elliot - I am not a religious person...BUT:I don't normally review books because they are more subjective than an article you may buy. That said: I am a Christian that doesn't practice, nor do I go to church. I saw this book on a TV interview and something struck me that I had to read it. I found it very profound and enlightening. I am sure there are people who won't like it, but the BACKGROUND to the Christian religion is absolutely fascinating and because there isn't much real information on the actual life of Jesus, this book approaches his life story by the history of the actual times he lived. I found it a little confusing at times and having a map of the region of the time would have been really helpful. I will probably read this again, and will make a chart of the people and places while I do it so I can keep the timeline straight. I would definitely recommend!
  • tamara elrod - Finally something that works!I have had cols sores on and off for 10 years. They get real ugly and painful with blisters real fast.I have used several OTC products for years and even a prescription product that didn't work.I received a FREE trial of Orajel Cold Sore form Smiley360 and man am I a happy camper. It worked in just 2 days.My blisters were gone and it had stopped itching.I am so thankful and grateful.
  • Joanna Daneman - "Game of Thrones" novella and a lot moreGardner Dozois and George Martin have put together a huge anthology of sci-fi, fantasy and historical fiction with the theme "WOMEN." But not just "Dangerous WOMEN" but women who take no prisoners, women of powers and strength, women who you'd better not tick off, if you want to stay in one piece. Highlights: First and foremost, the anticipated Westeros story by co-editor Martin (The Princess and the Queen) If you are a "Game of Thrones" fan, this story gives the background of the Targaryen Civil War or the "Dance of Dragons" in the "Song of Fire and Ice" books the TV series is based on.

The first short story, Abecrombie's "Some Desperado" got me dragged right in, with admiration for his excellent writing skill riding along as I went for quite a survival adventure. This is a first-person story, with a gal whose fears tell her one thing (I'm gonna buy it for real, this time!) while her innate ability and instincts are hurtling her towards survival. Love, love love how this author writes. Must read more! Excellent choice to start off this book. Short, and plenty of action. And it comfirms, this book is NOT just for women about women; it's high adventure and anyone who likes action AND fantasy will love it.

There is a story by Lev Grossman (The Magicians author) Some stories stand alone, and some fit into existing series. Some of the stories are long enough to be considered novellas: the Brandon Sanderson story "Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell", the Diana Gabaldon story "Virgins", the Caroline Spector story-"Lies my Mother Told Me" and the Martin story "The Princess and the Queen."

This book is a not a feminist manifesto as (a) the editors are male, (b) some of the authors are, too and (c) tough female heroines in fantasy sci-fi are quite popular in book and top-grossing films, too. (Hunger Games, Alien, Terminator.)

The book is 746 pages, really long and may keep you up all night (bleary as I type.) Couldn't put it down.
